Moment 2
Deborah-Joyce Holman

June 03 – August 21, 2022

Deborah-Joyce Holman, Moment 2 (film still), UK 2022
Courtesty of the artist.
Fri, June 10, 11:00 – 21:00
Sat, June 11, 11:00 – 20:00
Sun, June 12, 11:00 – 18:00

Moment 2 is an exhibition of a newly commissioned moving image and installation, which respond to the exploitative potential of images with an approach of artistc and filmic subversion.

In the nine-hour long moving image, the artist and performer Rebecca Bellantoni recites excerpts from Shirley Clarke’s 1967 film ‘Portrait of Jason’, which exemplifies both an extractive dynamic as well as fabulous strategies of refusal.

Moment 2 reacts to this by employing repetition and non-performance as tools to reenact refusal and resistance.

The french artist is showing his second chapter of the Outremonde cycle - Dream Hunters a hermetic landscape of sand, forever shifting and mutating.

For the second chapter at Luma Westbau, a landscape of sand sculptures alluding to sleeping and rest and resembling mattresses, beds, other objects referencing different states of sleep or moments of being awake, have been constructed and positioned in the gallery space.
